PALO ALTO, Calif. —William Gallentine, DO, has been appointed as the new Division Chief of Child Neurology at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health. With his extensive experience and profound expertise, Dr. Gallentine is exceptionally qualified to lead the division.
Dr. Gallentine is a Clinical Professor of Neurology and has served as the interim chief of the Division of Child Neurology since 2023. He is renowned for his work in the subspecialty of pediatric epilepsy. As a clinician, he focuses on treating children with refractory epilepsy, including those with autoimmune and genetic epilepsies, and runs specialized clinics for these conditions.
Dr. Gallentine’s research is driven by a passion for understanding the role of inflammation and genetics in epilepsy. His work aims to uncover novel biomarkers of epileptogenesis and seek therapeutic targets. He is also devoted to exploring mutation-specific treatments for genetic epilepsies.
Dr. Gallentine received his DO from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed a pediatrics residency at Geisinger Medical Center. He then undertook both his child neurology residency and clinical neurophysiology fellowship at Duke University, where he remained on the faculty as a pediatric epileptologist for 11 years, prior to joining Stanford Medicine in 2018.
In addition to his academic and clinical positions, Dr. Gallentine has served in significant roles to develop the next generation of pediatric care providers. He is an active member of the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, American Epilepsy Society, and American Academy of Neurology. He also has been a Child Neurology Residency Program Director at Duke University and Fellowship Director for Pediatric Epilepsy at Stanford Medicine.
