2024

Stanford Medicine Children’s Health Secures Top Spots in Computerworld’s 2025 Best Places to Work in IT (December 2024)

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford Continues to Rank Among Top Children’s Hospitals in the Nation by U.S. News & World Report (October 2024). 

For the ninth consecutive year, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford has been ranked in all specialties in the 2024–25 U.S. News & World Report Best Children’s Hospitals survey, a designation awarded to pediatric centers that deliver exceptionally high-quality care across multiple specialties. The rankings show Packard Children’s as tied for the No. 3 children’s hospital in California and the top-ranked children’s hospital in Northern California. Three specialties are ranked in the top 10, with two ranked the best in California.

Oncology Electronic Roadmaps Digital Platform Receives CIO 100 Award (March 2024)

Stanford Medicine Children’s Health is honored to be the recipient of the 2024 CIO 100 Award for its Oncology Electronic Roadmaps digital platform. This innovative platform has dramatically improved the quality of care, patient safety, and compliance at Stanford Children’s by providing efficient, accessible, and streamlined processes. It replaces outdated paper roadmaps, solving previous issues like misplaced documents, clerical errors, and delays in patient care. With approximately 50 faculty members, 20 nurse practitioners, 200 nurses, and 10 oncology pharmacists needing daily access to the roadmaps, there was a prime opportunity to leverage a digital solution that would alleviate these pain points.

2023

Stanford Medicine Children’s Health Once Again Recognized for the CHIME Digital Health Most Wired Achievement for Digital Excellence (November 2023)

For the ninth straight year, Stanford Medicine Children’s Health has been named one of Healthcare’s Most Wired, earning Level 9 Performance Excellence Awards for Acute (inpatient) and Ambulatory (outpatient) services. The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) Digital Health Most Wired program conducts an annual survey to identify and recognize health care organizations that exemplify best practices through their adoption, implementation, and use of information technology. Among the more than 55,000 facilities represented, Stanford Medicine Children's Health ranked above peers in categories like analytics and data management, population health, infrastructure, and patient engagement.

Packard Children’s Hospital is recognized as the top-ranked children’s hospital in Northern California by the 2023–24 U.S. News & World Report Best Children’s Hospitals survey, a designation awarded to pediatric centers that deliver exceptionally high-quality care across multiple specialties. The rankings show Packard Children’s as the No. 3 children’s hospital in California and the Pacific region. Three specialties ranked in the top 10 in the nation.

Stanford Medicine Earns Environmental Awards (June 2023)

Practice Greenhealth, a nonprofit focused on sustainability in health care, recognizes Stanford Medicine with six awards for decarbonizing health care and protecting the environment. Stanford Medicine received two Circle of Excellence awards: Packard Children’s was named a Green Building Circle honoree, while Stanford Health Care was named a Leadership Circle honoree. Both organizations also earned a Greenhealth Emerald Award, reserved for the top 20% of applicants.

Paul King, president and CEO of Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, added, “Public health decisions have to be based on the realities of climate change, and we all need to do more to make that happen. It’s why I am proud to see the work happening at Stanford Medicine ensures the health of our patients and accounts for the health of our planet.”

Michelle Monje, MD, PhD, Receives 2023 Richard Lounsbery Award (January 2023)

Congratulations to Michelle Monje, MD, PhD, pediatric neuro-oncologist at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, for receiving the 2023 Richard Lounsbery Award from the National Academy of Sciences (NAS)! She’s being recognized for advancing our understanding of pediatric brain cancers and the neurological effects of cancer treatments.

According to the NAS, the Richard Lounsbery Award is a $75,000 prize given to young scientists to recognize extraordinary scientific achievement in biology and medicine and stimulate research.

Monje’s research focuses on understanding healthy brain development, especially the role of glial cells, which provide supporting functions to the nervous system. Her team also studies how the cells’ development goes awry in a group of pediatric brain tumors known as high-grade gliomas, such as glioblastoma and diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG). She and her team recently published early results from a trial where they were able to see the benefits of CAR-T cells on brain and spinal cord tumors. The trial is ongoing and is only available at Stanford.

2022

2022 CHIME Digital Health Most Wired Recognition (November 2022) 

For the eighth straight year, Stanford Medicine Children’s Health has been named one of Healthcare’s Most Wired, earning Performance Excellence Awards for Acute (inpatient) and Ambulatory (outpatient) services. The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) Digital Health Most Wired program conducts an annual survey to identify and recognize health care organizations that exemplify best practices through their adoption, implementation, and use of information technology. Among the more than 38,000 organizations surveyed by CHIME, Stanford Medicine Children's Health ranked above peers in categories such as analytics and data management, population health, infrastructure, and patient engagement.

Six Stanford professors elected to the National Academy of Medicine (October 2022) 

Grace Lee, MD, Crystal Mackall, MD, Kari Nadeau, MD, PhD, and Anthony Oro are among the 100 members elected this year to the National Academy of Medicine (NAM). The National Academy of Medicine is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service. New members are elected by current members through a process that recognizes individuals who have made major contributions to the advancement of the medical sciences, health care, and public health.

Yvonne Maldonado, MD, has been selected as the recipient of the 2022 Clifford G. Grulee Award (October 2022)

Yvonne Maldonado, MD, chief of pediatric infectious diseases at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, has been selected by the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) as the recipient of the 2022 Clifford G. Grulee Award. This award is the highest recognition bestowed by the Academy and was established in 1951 in honor of Dr Clifford G. Grulee who served as secretary-treasurer and, later, executive secretary of the AAP from its founding in 1930 until his retirement in 1951. Dr. Maldonado was chosen based on outstanding service to the AAP and being instrumental in the Academy’s continued pursuit of its mission and service on behalf of the Academy and children.

Stanford Medicine Children’s Health Receives 2021 CHIME Digital Health Most Wired Recognition (October 2021)

For the seventh straight year, Stanford Medicine Children’s Health has been named one of Healthcare’s Most Wired. The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) Digital Health Most Wired program conducts an annual survey to identify, recognize, and certify the adoption, implementation, and use of information technology by health care provider organizations. Stanford Medicine Children’s Health earned 2021 Performance Excellence Awards for Acute (inpatient) and Ambulatory (outpatient) services. These awards highlight industry leadership in health care technology to improve patient outcomes and engagement and recognize organizations that have achieved high performance and reliability standards to support critical patient and business systems.

Stanford Medicine Children’s Health CIO Receives Bay Area CIO of the Year ORBIE Award for Public Health Sector (September 2021)

Ed Kopetsky, senior vice president and chief information officer of Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, has been named the 2021 Bay Area CIO of the Year for Public Sector by ORBIE® Awards. This honor recognizes chief information officers who have demonstrated excellence in technology leadership and innovation. Through trusted partnerships with clinicians, researchers, business partners and vendors, Kopetsky and the IS team have been instrumental in enabling significant patient care improvements such as fetal tele-surgery, remote patient monitoring with predictive analytics, and custom clinical decision support tools to improve quality - all innovations that are shared and deployed nationwide. 

“I am really honored and grateful for this award,” said Kopetsky. “I have been gifted by a long career and transformation role in health care and so many great people and partners who helped. This award goes out to my IS leadership and team members and all who partner with us to deliver excellent care and innovate new solutions to improve health care.”

Stanford Medicine Children's Health CMIO Receives the HIMSS-AMDIS Physician Executive Leader of the Year Award (August 2021)

Natalie Pageler, MD, chief medical information officer at Stanford Medicine Children's Health, has been named the 2021 Physician Executive Leader of the Year by the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems (AMDIS) and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). This honor recognizes a physician who demonstrates significant leadership in optimizing health engagements and care outcomes through information and technology. The award is given to a physician leader for demonstrated success and achievement in championing health information and technology to achieve optimal strategic impact.

“I’m so grateful for the support of such an innovative and collaborative informatics community focused on empowering people to achieve their optimal health outcomes” said Dr. Pageler. “I’m also very thankful and proud to be part of Stanford Medicine Children’s Health which is dedicated to advancing cutting-edge digital engagement and health information sharing for children, adolescents and their families.”

Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Business Development, Charlette Stallworth, honored with 2021 YWCA Silicon Valley Tribute to Women Award (March 2021)

Charlette Stallworth, Stanford Medicine Children’s Health vice president of strategic partnerships and business development, has been selected as an Honoree for the 2021 YWCA Golden Gate Silicon Valley Tribute to Women Award. This recognition celebrates the achievements of women who have made significant contributions to Silicon Valley in executive and professional roles, and is based on their outstanding achievements, leadership, and impact to their organization, field, and community. This year the YWCA selected 39 Honorees, all of whom will be honored in a virtual ceremony on May 13, 2021. Stallworth was nominated for the award by Rick Idemoto, chief strategy officer for Stanford Medicine Children’s Health.

Stanford Medicine Children’s Health named a CIO 100 Award winner for 2021 (March 2021)

IDG Communications, Inc.’s annual US CIO 100 Awards recognizes Stanford Medicine Children's Health Mobile App Digital Transformation Journey as an innovative and inspiring example of how IT leadership, business partnerships and customer engagement set the organization up for success. The award is an acknowledged mark of enterprise excellence and celebrates Stanford Medicine Children’s Health and the teams that are using IT in innovative ways. 

Stanford Medicine Children's Health has leveraged the unique one mobile app approach to provide a comprehensive, digitally driven tool for patients and families to easily access our services and stay connected. The mobile app technology platform is also a key differentiator with many innovations including digital health developed in house. Ed Kopetsky, Stanford Medicine Children’s Health’s chief information officer, stated “We are honored to receive the CIO 100 Award. This recognition highlights the collaboration between Information Services and our clinical and business partners to lead technology innovation and digital strategies in support of our organization’s goals and objectives to provide family-centered, world class care to children and expectant mothers.”

Stanford Medicine Children’s Health CIO Earns CHIME’s Healthcare Hero Designation (January 2021)

Ed Kopetsky, senior vice president and chief information officer of Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, has been named a healthcare hero by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) for outstanding service during the COVID-19 pandemic. CHIME winners are recognized for their leadership, extraordinary innovation and dedication to the COVID-19 response; for offering digital health care solutions that are transforming health and care across the health care ecosystem; and for prioritizing their community’s health.

“I am honored to be named a CHIME Healthcare Hero,” said Kopetsky. “During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have leveraged digital technologies, including telehealth and remote monitoring, to improve patient care and outcomes, and focused on advanced analytics and predictive capabilities to increase quality and efficiency throughout the organization. This achievement is a testament to the innovation and advancements happening each day at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, and a recognition of all the healthcare heroes across our health system.”

2020

County Supervisor Honors Two Faculty Members for Work during COVID-19 Pandemic (December 2020)

Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian has recognized two Stanford Medicine physicians for their contributions this year to the local community. Yvonne Maldonado, MD, chief of pediatric infectious diseases at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health and Steven Adelsheim, MD, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, were awarded supervisor’s medals by Simitian for advancing the wellbeing of county residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. They showed admirable resilience and offered others inspiration during a difficult year, Simitian said during an online awards ceremony Dec. 14.

PARENTS magazine Most Innovative Children’s Hospitals (December 2020)

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford has been named a Most Innovative Children's Hospital by PARENTS Magazine. The PARENTS survey recognizes children’s hospitals in the United States that have developed medical innovations that have had a meaningful impact on patient care, spanning digital health advances, patient safety, new medical treatments and devices, unique community health programs, and clever ways to keep young patients and their families comfortable in the hospital. To determine this year’s winners, PARENTS editors surveyed 50 leading children’s hospitals, inquiring about innovations, response to the pandemic and technology used on a regular basis. More than 200 innovations were submitted overall; among the 15 innovations selected is the Stanford Medicine Children’s Health donor heart matching program. In addition, the Stanford Medicine Children’s Health Teen Van was recognized by PARENTS for its role during COVID-19. The Most Innovative Children’s Hospitals appears in the January issue of PARENTS magazine and online at Parents.com/Innovative Hospitals.

Stanford Medicine Children’s Health Earns 2020 CHIME Digital Health Most Wired Recognition (October 2020)

Stanford Medicine Children’s Health has earned the 2020 CHIME Digital Health Most Wired recognition from the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME). The CHIME Digital Health Most Wired program conducts an annual survey to assess how effectively health care organizations apply core and advanced technologies into their clinical and business programs to improve health and care in their communities. This is the sixth straight year that Stanford Medicine Children’s Health has received the Most Wired designation.

Vice President and Associate Chief Information Officer, Lisa Grisim, RN, MSN, honored with 2020 YWCA Silicon Valley Tribute to Women Award (September 2020)

Lisa Grisim is one of 46 women selected to receive a 2020 YWCA Silicon Valley Tribute to Women Award, an honor that celebrates the achievements of women who have excelled in their field and have made significant contributions to the Silicon Valley through their exceptional leadership. Grisim, a nurse who serves as Stanford Medicine Children’s Health vice president and associate chief information officer, was nominated for the award by Ed Kopetsky, chief information officer for Stanford Medicine Children’s Health.

Human Rights Campaign Foundation Recognizes and Thanks Record 765 Health Care Facilities Paving The Way for Equality (September 2020)

Stanford Medicine Children’s Health is proud to have earned the LGBTQ Health Care Equality Leader designation with a perfect score of 100 on the 2020 Human Rights Campaign Foundation "Healthcare Equality Index." The HEI is the national LGBTQ benchmarking tool that evaluates healthcare facilities' policies and practices related to the equity and inclusion of their LGBTQ patients, visitors and employees.

Stanford Health Care, Packard Children’s receive environmental awards (July 2020)

Stanford Health Care and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford each received an Environmental Excellence Award from Practice Greenhealth, a nonprofit organization that promotes sustainability in the health care industry. Packard Children’s Hospital received a Partner Recognition Award in honor of its commitment to environmental improvements and its progress toward waste reduction, renewable energy and other eco-friendly practices.

Hamilton International Arts in Health Award (September 2019)

Officially recognized at an awards ceremony on September 18, as a part of the National Organization for Arts in Health's annual conference in Boston, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford was awarded The Hamilton International Arts in Health Award in the category of Arts Transforming Environments. This prestigious award was given to Stanford Medicine Children's Health for demonstrating the positive, measurable impact art has on patients in a health care environment.

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford earns Get With the Guidelines - Resuscitation - GOLD PLUS Award (June 2019)

The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association have honored Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford with a 2019 Get With The Guidelines® - Resuscitation - Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. This award recognizes Packard Children’s Hospital’s commitment and success in implementing a high standard of resuscitation care by ensuring that resuscitation patients receive treatment that meets nationally accepted, evidence-based standards and recommendations.

U.S. News & World Report Best Children’s Hospital rankings (June 2019)

In the U.S. News & World Report 2019-20 Best Children’s Hospitals survey published online today, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford once again achieved rankings in all 10 pediatric specialties, with three specialties in the top 10.

Packard Children’s earned the top rankings for the neonatology program, sixth in the entire nation. The nephrology program is the best in California, the pulmonology program ranked best on the West Coast, eighth in the country, and our endocrinology program is the top ranked in Northern California. The continual ranking in the top 20 of all children’s hospital affirm the exceptional quality of care that Stanford Medicine Children’s Health faculty, physicians and team members continue to provide to patients and their families.

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford receives Canopy Tree Award (January 2019)

The Canopy organization has honored Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford with the Arnold Soforenko Award for its Healing Gardens and Outdoor Spaces project, which “incorporates nature beautifully into the hospital campus, to promote healing and regeneration.”  The award, recognizing significant local urban forest contributions, was accepted by Jill Sullivan, Vice President of Strategic Space Planning and General Services, at the 23rd Annual Palo Alto Mayor's Tree Planting & Awards Ceremony, January 24, 2019.

2018

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford and Stanford Medicine Children’s Health earn 2018 HealthCare’s Most Wired award (November 2018)

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford and Stanford Medicine Children’s Health have once again been recognized as one of HealthCare’s Most Wired® hospitals and health systems for 2018. The Most Wired annual benchmarking survey is a leading industry barometer designed to identify and recognize health care organizations nationwide that exemplify best practices through their adoption, implementation and use of information technology (IT). IT innovations such as virtual care for patients with Type 1 diabetes, the Stanford Virtual Heart and telehealth services at 28 primary care sites have made Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford and Stanford Medicine Children’s Health a trailblazer in technology-driven pediatric medicine and health care IT.

eHealthcare Leadership Awards (November 2018)

Stanford Medicine Children’s Health earned two eHealthcare Leadership awards. In the category of best mobile App strategy, the organization garnered a platinum award, and in the category of best intranet, the organization’s Connect Anywhere earned a Gold.

These awards highlight the role of digital communications in achieving healthcare organizations’ business objectives. The eHealthcare Leadership Awards recognize the work that has gone into creating outstanding health websites and digital initiatives. It’s recognizes the very best websites and digital communications of healthcare organizations (both large and small), online health companies, pharmaceutical/medical equipment firms, agencies/suppliers, and business improvement initiatives.

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford named an IDSA Antimicrobial Stewardship Center of Excellence (August 2018)

The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) has named Packard Children’s Hospital one of the recipients of its Antimicrobial Stewardship Centers of Excellence (CoE) designation. The IDSA CoE program recognizes institutions that have created stewardship programs led by infectious diseases physicians and ID-trained pharmacists that are of the highest quality and have achieved standards established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It places emphasis on an institution’s ability to implement stewardship protocols using its electronic health record system and providing ongoing education to its medical staff. Congratulations to Hayden Schwenk, MD, MPH, and team for their efforts to combat antimicrobial resistant infections and protect the safety of patients.

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford earns two awards for health care design and construction (July 2018)

The newly opened Packard Children’s has been recognized in July with two prestigious awards for design and construction. The American Institute of Architects selected Packard Children’s for their 2018 National Healthcare Design Award, which showcases the best of health care building design, health care planning and health care design-oriented research. The hospital was also honored with a 2018 Silicon Valley Business Journal Structures award for Healthcare Project of the year, which recognizes excellence in Bay Area-based health care construction projects.

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford ranks among the nation’s best in pediatric specialty care — U.S. News & World Report’s 2017–2018 Best Children’s Hospitals (June 26, 2018)

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford once again achieved rankings in all ten pediatric specialties in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2018-19 Best Children’s Hospitals, the 14th consecutive year the hospital has been recognized. Most notably, Packard Children’s is ranked in the top 10 in the nation for Nephrology, is top-ranked on the West Coast in Pulmonology, and once again has the top-ranked Heart Center in Northern California.

Packard Children’s wins Precision Engagement Award in Innovation (April 2018)

GetWellNetwork has recognized Packard Children’s with a Precision Engagement Award in Innovation for its lasting commitment to delivering a collaborative and participatory patient and family experience. The hospital was selected from more than 120 entries for its work to inspire and engage patients and families. The award was presented during GetWellNetwork’s GetConnected 2018 conference, April 30, in National Harbor, Md.

SPS network, which includes Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford, earns John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award (March 2018)

The Children’s Hospitals’ Solutions for Patient Safety has been honored with a prestigious “Innovation in Patient Safety and Quality at the National Level” award for its focus on advancing the culture of safety across a network of more than 130 children’s hospitals. SPS network members share data about types of patient harm and spare an estimated 10,000 children from harm while hospitalized. Packard Children’s was one of the network’s founding 33 children’s hospitals in 2012. The new Main building at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford has been selected to receive a 2017 San Francisco Business Times Bay Area Real Estate Deal of the Year award. The award honors the boldest and most creative real estate deals in the Bay Area in 2017, including new buildings, renovations and projects with the greatest community impact. Winners will be recognized at a gala on March 22, 2018.

Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford named to California’s C-section Honor Roll (January 2018)

Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford has been named by the California Health and Human Services Agency to the state’s C-section Honor Roll. The Honor Roll annually recognizes California hospitals, their clinicians and care teams who are leading the way toward safer births, and healthier babies and mothers. It also raises awareness to encourage more hospitals and clinicians to provide only medically necessary low-risk, first-birth C-sections.

Christopher Dawes, President and CEO of Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford and Stanford Medicine Children’s Health was awarded the Silicon Valley Business Journal 2017 C-Suite Lifetime Achievement Award. He was recognized at a ceremony on November 30, 2017, and in a feature article published by the outlet.

Stanford Medicine Children’s Health and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford have been awarded the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2017 Enterprise Nicholas E. Davies Award of Excellence for outstanding achievement in utilizing health information technology to improve patient outcomes. Since 1994, this award has represented HIMSS’ highest global recognition of health care organizations’ use of information technology to achieve better clinical and financial outcomes.

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford ranks among the nation’s best in pediatric specialty care — U.S. News & World Report’s 2017–2018 Best Children’s Hospitals (June 27, 2017)

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford once again achieved rankings in all ten pediatric specialties in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2017-18 Best Children’s Hospitals. The hospital is the only children’s hospital in Northern California to be ranked in all 10 specialties in this year’s survey. Most notably, Packard Children’s nephrology program received the top ranking in the state and placed #8 in the entire nation. The pulmonology program ranked best on the West Coast and #11 in the nation. And the cardiology and heart surgery program is once again the top ranked in Northern California.

Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford and Stanford Medicine Children’s Health have been honored as one of Health Care’s Most Wired® for 2017.  The awards were part of results from the 19th annual Health Care’s Most Wired survey released by the American Hospital Association’s Health Forum.

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford awarded the Eisenberg Award as part of the I-PASS Study Group (April 2017)

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford was awarded the prestigious Eisenberg Award for National Innovation in Patient Safety and Quality, the highest patient safety and quality award in the country. As part of a collaborative of researchers, hospitalists and medical education specialists, called the I-PASS Study Group, Packard Children’s helped develop a package of interventions used by more than 50 leading hospitals in the U.S. to help improve patient safety by standardizing provider communications to reduce errors during patient handoffs.

2016

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford’s Information Services’ IT team earns Healthcare IT News' Best Hospital IT Departments (2016)

Healthcare IT News, announced Packard Children’s IT department as one of 20 winners of their Best Hospital IT Department Survey.  To qualify at least 50 percent of an IT team's staffers had to participate in the survey. Overall, more than 4,300 hospital IT employees completed the poll. Of these finalists, 10, including Packard Children’s qualified for the "Super" category (200-plus IT employees). In an interview with the publication, Packard Children’s chief information officer, Ed Kopetsky said that virtual care and analytics initiatives being launched across the organization "point us to the future – that's the next wave,” he said. “It's just great what we're doing with IT, and you can never do this without the greatest people."

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Adolescent Health, Think, Act, Grow® (TAG) Honors Mobile Teen Van (November 1, 2016)

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Adolescent Health's national call to action Think, Act, Grow® (TAG) has recognized the Mobile Adolescent Health Services program (aka Teen Health Van), one of Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford’s Community Partnership programs, as a successful strategy for improving adolescent health. Dr. Seth Ammerman, medical director of the Teen Health Van and a clinical professor in the Division of Adolescent Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, Stanford University and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford, was recognized on October 31, 2016 at the American Public Health Association annual meeting.

National Center for Healthcare Leadership’s Best Organizations for Leadership Development (October 24, 2016)

Stanford Medicine Children’s Health/Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford has been named by the National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL) as one of the ten highest ranking “BOLD” healthcare organizations – Best Organizations for Leadership Development. Organizations named to the top ten were selected by the NCHL’s 2016 National Health Leadership Survey as front-runners in using evidence-based leadership development practices to improve health and healthcare in their communities.

Women’s Choice Award 2017 Best Children’s Hospitals (October 2016)

Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford has been named to the Women’s Choice Awards 2017 Best Children’s Hospitals. The award is given to institutions that demonstrate exceptional service in the areas of family centered care, pediatric and neonatal ICU, Child Life specialists, use of telehealth technologies, participation in pediatric health research, pediatric trauma center accreditation and more. Packard Children’s is one of five children’s hospitals in California to receive the award.

The San Francisco Business Times and the Silicon Valley Business Journal’s annual list of healthiest employers, produced in conjunction with their research partner, Healthiest Employer LLC, honors organizations that are committed to making the wellbeing of their employees a significant priority and proactively improve the health of their population.

Bay Area Parent Reader's Choice for Best Children's Hospital on the Peninsula (July 2016)

Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford has won the Silver Medal award for Reader's Choice for Best Children's Hospital on the Peninsula, as well as Best Birthing Center on the Peninsula. In addition, Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, Peninsula Pediatric Medical Group was awarded the Bronze Medal for Best Pediatrician on the Peninsula.

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford achieves U.S. News & World Report Best Children’s Hospital Honor Roll (June 21, 2016)

Packard is named to U.S. News & World Report’s 2016-17 Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll. We are the only children’s hospital in Northern California and one of just three on the west coast to achieve this status, with rankings in all ten pediatric specialties, three of which are ranked in the top 10: Cardiology & Heart Surgery (#5), Nephrology (#5) and Pulmonology (#7).

HIMSS Stage 7 Awards honor our facilities for operating in a paperless environment and representing best practices in implementing Electronic Health Records (November 4, 2015)

HIMSS Analytics has awarded Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford and Stanford Medicine Children’s Health in Palo Alto, Calif., with a Stage 7 Acute Care Award, and all 167 of their network practices with Stage 7 Ambulatory Awards. This is the only children’s hospital enterprise in Northern California to receive these prestigious awards.

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford is named one of the Bay Area’s Healthiest Employers in 2015 (September 8, 2015)

The San Francisco Business Times and the Silicon Valley Business Journal partnered with Healthiest Employers LLC, to determine the Bay Area’s healthiest employers. Honored were top institutions committed to making the workplace and wellbeing of their employees a significant priority. Packard Children’s ranked 5th among companies with 2,000+ employees working in the Greater Bay Area counties. The survey queried each participating company about its wellness programs: its culture and leadership, strategic planning, communication and marketing, foundational components, programming and interventions.

Transplant Programs Receive Gold Level Recognition for Organ Donation Outreach (August 11, 2015)

Our Transplant Center was recently awarded with gold level recognition from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration for our organ, eye, and tissue donation outreach efforts in 2014-15. During this period, we worked closely with Donor Network West, our local organ procurement organization, and Donate Life California as part of our strong push to educate and register organ donors within the local community. As the national leader in pediatric organ transplantation, this award reaffirms the positive impact that our transplant center has on not only our patients but also the larger community as well.

Kim Roberts is one of thirty-six women selected to receive a YWCA 2015 Tribute to Women Award, an honor focused on valuing executive women and the unique perspective they bring to their company. Roberts, who also serves as Chief Administrative Officer for Physician Practices, Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, and Chief Executive Officer Packard Children’s Health Alliance (PCHA), was nominated for the award by Christopher G. Dawes, president and CEO of Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford and Stanford Medicine Children’s Health.

Seth Ammerman, MD, honored with Jefferson Award for Public Service Silver Medal  (January 15, 2015)

Seth Ammerman, MD was one of five out of fifty-five 2014 local Jefferson Awards recipients, who were honored on January 15 in San Francisco, with a Jefferson Award for Public Service Silver Medal. Dr. Ammerman, Medical Director of Mobile Adolescent Health Services, founded the Teen Van program in 1996; the roving program provides free healthcare to underserved youth from San Francisco to San Jose. The annual Jefferson Awards silver medal ceremony honors five standouts in local community service who will go on to be considered among other regional silver medal recipients nationwide for a national Jefferson award.

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford awarded coveted 2013 Leapfrog Top Children’s Hospital Distinction (December 3, 2013)

The Leapfrog Group has named Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford to its annual list of Top Hospitals. Packard Children’s Hospital was selected as a Top Children’s Hospital out of a record number of 1,324 hospitals participating in The Leapfrog Group’s annual survey. The selection is based on measurements of a hospital’s performance on patient safety and quality.

Pediatric Rheumatology Leader from Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford Receives National Award of Distinction (November 26, 2013)

The American College of Rheumatology has honored Christy Sandborg, MD, pediatric rheumatologist at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford, with a Distinguished Service Award, one of the College’s Awards of Distinction.

Professor who links nutrition to birth defects honored by the March of Dimes (November 4, 2013)

Researcher Gary M. Shaw, PhD, who showed that what a woman consumes during pregnancy may increase her baby’s risk of developing a birth defect, has received the March of Dimes Agnes Higgins Award for outstanding achievements in the field of maternal-fetal nutrition.

Hospital earns top recognition from leading accreditor of Health Care Organizations (October 30, 2013)

The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America, has recognized Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford for exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions. The hospital earned the distinction of Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance.

Quality-improvement expert named first-ever recipient of new national award (June 24, 2013)

Pediatrician Paul Sharek, MD, MPH, whose research focuses on improving the quality of care delivered in children’s hospitals, has been named the inaugural Paul V. Miles Fellow in Quality Improvement by the American Board of Pediatrics. This honor was bestowed upon Sharek because of his dedication to quality improvement and demonstrated accomplishments leading to better healthcare for children.

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford has been honored with the “Food, Climate, Health Connection Award” from the Health Care Without Harm (HCWH) Healthy Food in Health Care (HFHC) program. The award is one of four Sustainable Food Awards given in 2013 to recognize significant achievement as well as leadership in health care food service.

Kidney Transplant Program ranked #1 in the U.S.  (April 1, 2013)

In the most recent national report, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford successfully performed 31 kidney transplants in kids under age 18, more than any other pediatric transplant program in the nation. That’s according to newly released data from the United Network for Organ Sharing, the private, non-profit organization that manages the nation’s organ transplant system.
