Bay Area Media Advisory: Halloween Trick-or-‘Tweet’ Trail This Thursday (31) at Packard Children’s

Early word is that patients dressed as Justin Bieber may make an appearance

For Release: October 29, 2013

STANFORD, Calif. - How does a hospital morph itself into a Halloween playground of superheroes and princesses? First, create 50 different trick-or-treat stops complete with hundreds of caregivers out to see who has the best costume. Next, decorate the halls, desks and doors. Then, build a haunted house guaranteed to give thrills and chills. And finally, invite some of the most special kids in the world.

Welcome to the annual Trick-or-Treat Trail this Thursday (31) at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. It’s a place where kids can have Halloween fun even while being hospitalized. The decorations, the haunted house, the toys, gooey treats, and outrageous costumes are almost ready, and everyone is counting down for the big day.

Making sure that family and friends can get in on the Trail fun, Packard Children’s staffers will be tweeting and posting photos of the event via the hospital’s Twitter feed while it’s happening. It’s a Trick-or-Treat Trail with tweets (Say that three times fast).

Of course, it’s not just kids, siblings and families hitting the Trail. The staff gets into it, big time, with lots of themes. Staffers dressed as characters from Finding Nemo? Dorothy and her pals? A Disney princess or two? You never know.

“We think it’s one very cool way to give kids a little bit of normalcy,” said Colette Case, director of child and family life services, whose team is masterminding the extravaganza. “It’s a major event for all of us, and we’re proud of the happiness it creates.”
