PALO ALTO, Calif. - In their annual publication of Outstanding Directors 2013, the San Francisco Business Times and Silicon Valley Business Journal have honored two board members from Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford for their exceptional careers in board service.
Mary B. Cranston was honored for leadership in her extraordinary and influential career. She has been serving as Chair of the Board of Directors of Packard Children’s since January 2012, and a member of the board since 2008. A fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, she joined Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP in 1975, and from 1999 to 2006 she served as Chair and CEO of the firm. Cranston’s current board service includes Visa, Juniper Networks, GrafTech International, International Rectifier, and Exponent.
Cranston’s nonprofit board commitments have included the Commonwealth Club, Bay Area Council Board of Directors, San Francisco Ballet Board of Trustees, ABA Commission on Women, Catalyst Board of Directors, Stanford Alumni Association Board of Directors, Stanford University Board of Trustees, and Stanford Law School Board of Visitors Executive Committee.
Jane E. Shaw, elected to the hospital’s Board of Directors in 2012, was recognized for her service and far-reaching influence. Shaw was a director of Intel beginning in 1993 and served as Chair of the Intel Board from 2009 until her 2012 retirement. She also retired as Chair and CEO of Aerogen, Inc., a specialty medical device company in Mountain View, Calif. Other highlights of Shaw’s career include President and COO of ALZA Corporation, a pharmaceutical company, and founding The Stable Network, a biopharmaceutical consulting company.
Shaw previously served on the boards of OfficeMax Inc. from 1994 to 2006 and Talima from 2007 to 2011. She has served on the board of the McKesson Corporation since 1992 as its longest-serving director. Additionally, Shaw is on the boards of AeroSurgical Limited and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
“We thank the San Francisco Business Times and Silicon Valley Business Journal for their recognition of these two remarkable and accomplished individuals,” said Christopher G. Dawes, president and CEO at Packard Children’s. “Our Board of Directors represents some of the finest leaders in Silicon Valley and beyond, all committed to meaningful work and meaningful lives. We congratulate Jane and Mary on this much-deserved accolade, and we are grateful to everyone on our board for their service to the community.”
