Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford and Kohl’s Department Stores Team Up for Child Safety

PALO ALTO, Calif. — On Monday, October 17, Kohl’s Department Stores, in partnership with Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford, will host a free car seat safety event at its Redwood City location. This event is part of Kohl’s Child Safety and Outreach Program at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford, an ongoing partnership to reduce harm to Bay Area children. Officers from the California Highway Patrol and bilingual certified technicians from Packard Children’s will inspect car seats and provide parents with information and best practices. Appointments for a car seat fitting with a certified technician at this event can be made online or by calling (650) 736-2981.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of injury-related death among children in the United States. Child safety seats and safety belts, when installed and used correctly, can prevent injuries and save lives. Yet experts estimate that as many as four out of five car seats are still installed incorrectly. “Improving car seat installation is an important initiative in our efforts to reduce motor vehicle related injuries,” states Nancy Sanchez, Community Relations Manager at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. “We are pleased to have such a committed partner in Kohl’s that shares our commitment to keeping Bay Area children safe.”

At the event on October 17, Kohl’s will also present Packard Children’s with a check for this year’s grant, totaling $170,759. Support from Kohl’s will enable the Child Safety and Outreach Program to continue promoting car seat, bicycle, and pedestrian safety at health fairs and community events across the South Bay and Peninsula. Since 2005, Kohl’s has donated over $725,000 to Packard Children’s to help promote the health and safety of local children.

Through this initiative, Kohl’s sells $5 books and plush toys where 100 percent of net profit benefits children’s health and education programs nationwide.
