STANFORD, Calif. - For the fifth consecutive year, the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital MD Portal has been recognized with honors during the 14th Annual Healthcare Internet Conference in Las Vegas. This year, the hospital received a 1st Place/Gold Award in its category for improving continuity of care by allowing referring physicians access to their Packard patients' medical records.
Packard Children’s is among some 260 healthcare organizations, representing a broad industry spectrum, receiving recognition on November 17 for their outstanding Web sites. Sites receiving the 2010 eHealthcare Leadership Awards were selected from nearly 1,300 entries. The Packard Children’s MD Portal was launched in 2003, and provides an industry-leading and customized solution for information sharing to the hospital’s referring physicians. Through the gateway, physicians can securely and easily refer patients, follow their medical progress, view the hospital’s pediatric grand rounds and even send greeting cards to patients. The portal has over 2000 users and processes over 700 hospital referrals each month. According to a recent referring-physician satisfaction survey, the MD Portal was ranked as the preferred method for submitting referrals over more traditional processes.
“It’s a very forward-thinking way for physicians to access patients' clinical information through the Web, anytime, anywhere and in real-time,” said Ed Kopetsky, Vice President and Chief Information Officer. Next up? “The world of health information technology is certainly an exciting and growing universe, especially at Packard Children’s,” said Blase Iuliano, Senior Web Product Manager. “That’s why we’re developing ways to grow, refine and expand this mission-critical communications tool.” “The MD Portal team is continually dedicated to technical solutions that support our world-class patient care,” added Kopetsky, “and this award is a wonderful recognition of their success.”
