Two New Members With Deep Expertise in Health Technology and Public Health Joining Board of Directors of Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. – Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford recently appointed global health care technology executive Afia Asamoah, JD, MPP, and public health leader and pediatrician Ying-Ying Goh, MD, MSHS, to its Board of Directors. Both Asamoah’s and Goh’s appointments begin April 1, 2022.

Asamoah is Head of Legal and People for Waymark, Inc., a health technology start-up providing community-based, tech-enabled health care services for Medicaid beneficiaries. Prior to Waymark, Asamoah was Head of Legal for Google Health. She holds a JD from Harvard Law School, a Master in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School, and a BA from Harvard University.

Goh is Director of Public Health and City Health Officer for Pasadena, California, and a clinical pediatrician. She holds a Doctor of Medicine from the Stanford University School of Medicine, an MS in Health Services Research from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, and a BA in Public Policy from Stanford University.

Afia Asamoah

Throughout her career, Afia Asamoah has worked at the intersection of technology and health. In 2020, she was named “one of the 10 most influential minority healthcare executives” by Fierce Healthcare.

As Head of Legal and People at Waymark, Inc., she guides strategy, manages risk, and grows and scales the business in markets across the United States. She joined Google as its first health care lawyer to advise teams developing medical software and AI technologies. And she has been at the forefront of several firsts—including negotiating Google’s first patent licensing deal with Novartis and navigating a spinout from Google LLC to form a sister company, Verily Life Sciences.

Asamoah also serves on the board of the Public Health Institute and as a limited partner in the How Women Invest fund, supporting women-led companies. She is based in California with her husband and two sons.

Ying-Ying Goh, MD, MSHS

Ying-Ying Goh

As a Stanford graduate and Harvard-trained expert in public health, Ying-Ying Goh has led one of Southern California’s largest cities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Goh was appointed Director of Public Health for the City of Pasadena in April 2019, while continuing in the important position of City Health Officer, which she has held since 2015. Goh’s responsibilities have included mobilizing the city’s response to the pandemic and managing programs related to diabetes care management and childhood obesity prevention.

In addition to her clinical pediatric practice, Goh’s professional experience includes management of a California Endowment task force to improve health care access and quality in Los Angeles County; design and implementation of a case management program for seniors with chronic conditions; and research to improve nutrition and physical activity for youth.

In March 2022, the California Legislative Women’s Caucus selected Goh as Assembly District 41’s Woman of the Year. Goh makes her home in Southern California with her husband and three children.
