At Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford, we have a multidisciplinary team working together to care for the unique needs of children with vocal cord dysfunction (VCD), which is a condition caused by an abnormal closing of the vocal cords. Instead of the vocal cords opening while a child inhales, they close together, which makes it more difficult for the air to pass through to the lungs.
Our VCD team provides a thorough evaluation prior to diagnosis and treatment to ensure that each child receives the best care possible. You and your child will meet with the pediatric otolaryngologist and speech-language pathologist to determine your child’s therapeutic options and to develop a treatment plan that works for the child and family.
