Pediatric Critical Care Medicine
“We are the leading center for the care of children with heart disease in the West; I feel very fortunate to be a part of this team.”
I have always been interested in the physiology and anatomy of the heart. Combining that with caring for children is a real honor to have as my job. My dad was an adult cardiologist and my mother was a nursery schoolteacher, so my career is kind of a combination of the two.
I have three young children under the age of 6, so I really understand what parents are going through, and appreciate how difficult it must be to have a child who is sick.
As a pediatric cardiologist, I try to do the least amount of intervention as possible and allow the rhythm of healing to occur after surgery. The biggest honor of my career was when a patient who was in our care for a year named her dog Axelrod after me.
