Pediatrics
When I see a patient and their family in the clinic, I ask what they want out of the visit, because it's important their needs get met. Families and patients just want to get better. I then tailor the care I provide to meet their unique needs.
An experience I had as an intern in pediatrics inspired me to go into immunology: there was a 2-month-old patient who wasn't growing, and no one could figure out what was wrong. After several months of hard work, we diagnosed her with the fourth case of a rare metabolic disorder; it was as simple as changing her formula and she was fine. It taught me that it's worth going the extra mile to find answers.
I am proud to be a part of this hospital because it's a unique collection of people with special expertise surrounding pediatric illnesses. It's a very special place, unlike anything I have encountered in my medical career.
