Pediatric Gastroenterology
“The most fulfilling and satisfying aspect of my profession is changing someone's life for the better.”
I like dealing with the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. I am naturally drawn to this area of medicine as GI problems run in my family. The GI tract is a complex and vital part of the body. We know now about the brain-gut relationship because it can be very difficult to heal the gut without considering the role of stress and emotion, and vice versa. Often the gut is referred to as the second brain. Many of our GI patients present with emotional and behavioral issues when their problems actually come from the gut. Caring for sick children can be extremely challenging and have a profound impact on the entire family. Making these children feel better almost always makes everyone happy again. The most fulfilling and satisfying aspect of my profession is changing someone's life for the better.
