  • “I want to help children and families at their time of deepest need.”

My Approach

As the director of the Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Therapies program, I provide care to children with heart failure, cardiomyopathy and heart transplantation in a way that emphasizes respect for each child and clear communication with families. We provide innovative treatments for extremely serious illnesses that bring about the very best outcomes.

One of the most memorable moments of my career was with a critically ill patient awaiting a heart transplant, who was not expected to survive another 24 hours. We petitioned the FDA for a permit to use a miniature, external heart-pump that was not approved for the U.S. use at the time, thereby saving the child's life. The pump, called the Berlin Heart, subsequently underwent clinical trials in the U.S., and is now available for other children awaiting heart transplantations. Superb colleagues, dedicated staff, and a commitment to advanced treatment, helps us consistently provide outstanding care.
